Hines Ward Sees You, NFL... E-mail
Written by Cotter

Hines Ward is kind of like the NFL's Kanye West.

Don't understand that reference?

I'm kidding, obviously. Hines' comments are nowhere near as crazy as Kanyeezee's. But he's got it right. The NFL is more worried about playing PR games than protecting players. I'm not going to bother grandstanding on this issue in this post or any other. Neither I nor anyone else is/would be saying anything about this that everyone else hasn't already thought. But I did figure you'd enjoy Hines' perspective.

He speaks the truth. To the league the players are little more than highly paid cattle. Chew them up and spit them out. Look at the lack of benefits for veterans.

    Props to Hines, as always.

On the lighter side, I heard someone at the gym I work out at say this about the Harrison situation "They might as well let 6-year-olds play quarterback. You can't hit them either."

Hines is right in every way possible. The things the NFL are trying to do are ridiculous.

Yea all goodell cares about is PR. I bet it'll feel all better if they go out and kick the Ravens butt. If there was ever a year for the Steelers to win the SB this is it. I want Ben the SB MVP and Harrison to win DPOY again. Just to rub it in goodell's face.

Roger BADell is simply making an example out of one of the leagues hardest hitters. Instead of trying to implement this change during the off-season and pre-season, Rodge decided to pull the triger mid-season. The later is obviously the uphill road.

So how would you make a league wide change mid-season? Spotlight the hardest hitter on the league's most followed franchise. reach the masses.

someone get Mel Blount's phone number and forward it to The Silverback. The Shield couldnt stop 47 from getting to Canton, maybe he can give James some advice.

What is the NFL all about? in the words of one of the most successful business men alive...
    "IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY"
    Roger is no different.
Props to 86. tell it like it is Hines.

So should Hines expect his fine immediately, or is the league just going to bundle it all together with upcoming ones handed out after Sunday night's game, where the officials will hit him with a phantom, bullshit penalty?

I posted this at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's PG+ site. It sums up my views:

I don't blieve that there is a conscious effort to conspire against the Steelers but i DO think that NFL officials are definitely penalizing the Steelers excessively for two reasons:

1- the team is too dominant; the Steelers have been one play/penalty away from more than 10 SuperBowls. No other team has won as much or as often as the Steelers in the last 40 years.

2- defense is the very foundation of the Steelers; the rule changes since Goodell(Bob Kraft, NE owner's boy) have hindered the defense and hugely assisted Tom Brady's style of play. Goodell may not be "out to get" the Steelers but i seriously doubt he minds seeing them lose and/or struggle. The latest "emphasis" is yet another example of this

So- i don't believe in a conspiracy but i do believe in a major BIAS against the Steelers and "Steeler Football".

We have been the beneficiaries of some crazy calls, but we have also seen a hell of a lot of inexplicable, unimaginable penalties called against. Things i've never, ever seen in any other NFl game.

And, finally, i think the league's failure to protect Ben is a matter of neglect and a backhanded means of punishing him even more for having the misfortune of being ACCUSED by a couple of drunken whores. Misplaced "chivalry" among officials might be subconsciously causing them to ignore abuses of Ben.
