Well, it looks like we can all pour one out for Aaron Smith's 2009 campaign.

According to Wexell, Smith's looking at shoulder surgery to his rotator cuff, and that this will keep him out until mid-January.

So it's decision time for Tomlin...


Does he put Smith on IR or does he take a page from Cowher's book and hope Smith makes it back IF the Steelers make it to the AFC Championship and/or Super Bowl?

We're gonna leave that one out there for you all to debate.

Feel free to make your best argument for either side in the comments.

    I think Tomlin should keep him around for a just in case if the Steelers make the playoffs.

    Sucks that Smith is hurt, but this is not 2 years ago. Clark Haggans is gone and we now have the Wood.

    A few of the backups filled in for Kiesel and got a lot of experience last year.

    I'll be watching closely to see if teams run more at the left side of the Steelers defensive line. Also will be watching to see if Harrison sees more double teams, daring Woodley to make more plays.

    I think it's the right thing to do. We need the roster spot, and I don't think he'll be ready in time, long playoff run or not.

    Keisel and company will just have to step up.

    Losing Aaron Smith is worrisome. The last time he missed any substantial time, teams ran on us, profusely. However, at that time, we didn't have Sherriff Lamarr Woodley, or, for that matter, Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars (Ziggy Hood, Nick Eason, Sonny Harris, et al).

    By the way, the Browns suck, and Brady Quinn has put his house in Cleheaveland up for sale.

    A good week to bury 'em.
