One For The Other Thumb
In His Own Words... E-mail

Ok, here's the deal...

According to KDKA, Big Ben told cops (at the scene, last week) that there was some sexual contact, that there was NO intercourse, and that he didn't force himself on the girl, but that she did slip, fall, and hit her head after their little encounter was over.

Make of that what you will...

(h/t to the immortal Big Bob for the tip!)

Milledgeville Patrons Shall Eat Ben's Meat No Longer... E-mail

That's right, although we all may still be able to enjoy Big Ben's beef jerky for a little while longer, as you can see from this image and caption, no burger named after such a heinous criminal shall ever grace the plates of patrons at Buffington's in Milledgeville, Georgia ever again!

The Falafel with soup special, on the other hand, appears to be safe.

And in moderately related Georgia news, check out what one of their criminal sexual offenses is...

Internet Rumors Are A Foul Temptress... E-mail

sweed

It's hard to tell what there is more of on the Interwebs these days - rumors or porn.

But it's pretty obvious that like a screaming case of herpes (or Brett Favre...same thing, really), neither is going away.

The latest Steelers rumor - one of them, anyway - swirling around the league is that Limas Sweed has asked the Steelers to trade him and that the team granted his agent permisison to "explore" one a week ago.

Of course, if this is all true, the fact that the team still signed Arnaz Battle and Randle El on Monday is probably a pretty good indication that the best offer they've received is a bag of balls and several used practice jerseys (though there were apparently some who thought a deal was in the works with the Falcons).

So unless there's some obscure rule I'm not aware of that allows NFL teams to trade players to the UFL, I wish Limas good luck.

Honestly, though, it's not out of the question that some team might be willing to take a chance on Sweed.

I personally wouldn't really mind if the Steelers kept him around in the hopes that he spends the rest of the offseason blowing some of his salary on psychotherapy and comes into next season ready to shut us all up.

But in any case, right now we don't even know if Sweed actually did request a trade at all, let alone if anyone would be interested in such a transaction.

So, I guess the point of this all is - maybe Limas Sweed wants out of the Burgh, maybe his agent was granted permission to try and facilitate that, and maybe this is just the latest in a long list of rumors the internet has proliferated.

Right now we just don't know.

But seriously, could we possibly expect anything beyond a Primanti's sandwich and a case of Coors Cutter in return for Limas Sweed?

Furthermore, wouldn't you entertain that offer?

They Can Take Our QB, But They'll Never Take Our Jerky... E-mail

Ben's judgment may be questionable, but PLB's is not.

The maker of Big Ben's Beef Jerky says the product ain't going nowhere for the time being.

Big Ben's beef stick, on the other hand...

Terrible joke, I know.

But would you expect any less?

Check it out, the Steelers have apparently re-signed both Ryan Clark and ANTWAAN RANDLE EL!

How do you like that news to cap off your first Monday of free agency?

Will Allen.

Here's what I know about him - free agent Safety from the Bucs who at one time played under Tomlin while he was in Tampa, and according to Adam Schefter, is soon to become the newest Steeler.

Apparently, he was a pro bowl alternate as a special teamer after the 2008 season, but hasn't started a game at Safety since 2007, and only played in like five games last season (starting in two of them) before being placed on IR.

Here's what Buccaneers.com's got for you on Allen's career stats...

So, there you go.

Not exactly Antrel Rolle, but then, the Steelers really aren't going to throw almost $40 million at anyone in free agency, so what would we expect?

Feel free to acquaint yourself with he who could become Troy's new partner in crime (or perhaps just a Special Teamer, who even really knows).

And feel free to deposit any personal thoughts or opinions on this move in the comments.

PS - As of about 3 PM, Schefter's calling both Allen AND...
schefterbattle

UPDATE (3:15 PM): SteelCityInsider confirms - the Steelers have agreed to terms with both Allen and Battle - both multi-year deals.

So much for not rushing into free agency, I guess...

I Fail To See How This Has Anything To Do With The Giants... E-mail

Ok, first of all, there's no Eli vs. Big Ben debate, Gary.

Despite the fact that the two were part of the same draft class, Big Ben is still more often compared to Peyton Manning (and Tom Brady) than he is to Eli Manning.

Besides, ok, you're right, Ben's mental handicap justifies the Giants taking Eli.

Well then, where was that prescient foresight when they signed Plaxico Burress?

Funny, I didn't know this was a chance for the NY media to feel good about the Giants.

I thought the story was about Pittsburgh Steelers QB, Ben Roethlisberger.

Honestly, even the biggest Roethlisberger apologists (like me) acknowledge that his off-field decision-making skills have not developed nearly as quickly as his on-field decision-making skills (and even those aren't totally developed).

But really?

This isn't even a logical argument (unless of course the Giants picked [read: traded Phillip Rivers for] Eli over Ben because they somehow knew Ben was "trouble").

Sorry, Gary.

Ish don't sink so.
Ish don't think so sound bite

I've never had more emails in my inbox from TMZ.com than I do right now.

Ben, seriously, dude?

Criminal investigation pending, Ben has yet to be formally charged...yadda yadda...Rapistberger.

I love how the woman identified him as 6'5" and 241 pounds just off the top of her head.

That's 241 pounds, not 240 or 242.

What, did she study his measurements before she accused him of touching her where she pees (in all fairness, no idea what the alleged sexual assault is in this case)?

Either way, Ben - What are you even doing hanging out in college bars at 28, man?

With WILLIE COLON?!?!
